AutoResizing
Pages

This page is created such that it will automatically resize to the width of the browser window. Since NetObjects Fusion was  originally created with an eye toward maintaining pixel-level layout control, the method which NOF must use to create automatically resizing pages is a little more complex than the method used to generate standard WYSIWYG pages.

In standard HTML pages, the ‘text’ of the page is the overall defining factor in the page’s appearance.  Without the level of layout control HTML which NOF generates, browsers will automatically ‘flow’ the text in an HTML page to fit the browser window.   The other elements in a page (graphics, layout regions etc) are “aligned” relative to the text.

Here’s how I created this page:

  1. Create a new page
  2. Set the page’s MasterBorder to the “Zero Margins” MasterBorder
  3. Create a text object, and populate this text object with everything you want this page to contain. Keep in mind that the level of layout control you will have is not going to be the same WYSIWYG level of control as you would normally have, because the HTML code which is going to be generated will be different
  4. When you have put all the information in the text object, click on the “Text Box” tab of the “Text Properties” window
  5. Check the “Size Layout to Text” checkbox
  6. Check the “Contents wrap to browser width” checkbox

Again, the alignment options available when embedding elements into a text object are more limited - you can ‘wrap’ text around an element to the left or to the right, but cannot wrap text all the way around an element. That’s part of the reason why the “Workbench” logo and navigation bits are embedded in a Layout Region above, and the “To Top” and “Disclamer” stuff is in a layout region below this text.

Elements can be embedded into a Layout Region or table, and then placed in an automatically-resizing page if you want to retain specific formatting in certain areas. The entire layout region will be aligned according to the setting in the “Align” tab
