Why count clicks? Because clicks take time and time is money. Clicks also reveal how intuitive a program really is. How long it takes to grasp the basic functionality of a program can drastically affect how quickly and easily you can create and maintain your Web site. Our testing method included the following guidelines:
- Web site building tasks were based on the NetObjects Fusion method: Site Structure, Page Layout, Site Styles, Asset Management, and Publishing.
- The tester had only the information that shipped with each product and was allowed to read through the materials prior to the comparison.
- The tester was allowed to explore some difficult processes up to three times before the click and time count was conducted.
- When multiple methods were available for completing a task, the method that most closely matched NetObjects Fusion's was used.
- The tester then completed the specific task and was timed using a stopwatch.
- The total number of clicks required to complete a task was then multiplied by the number of pages (20) required by the comparison to arrive at the final click count for the task. The same method was used to arrive at the total amount of time required for each task.
