NetObjects Launches WebReach Community Relations Program

Redwood City, CA, October 30, 1996 -- NetObjects Inc. today unveiled WebReach, a new community relations program designed to empower non-profit organizations and social groups by helping them establish a compelling Web presence. The launch of the WebReach program was marked by the unveiling of the Youth for Environmental Sanity Web site (www.yesworld.org) that was built using NetObjects Fusion, the company's award-winning Web site building software application.

WebReach will help social groups, non-profit organizations and community leaders establish a powerful presence on-line. Qualified non-profit organizations that participate in the program will receive a substantial discount on NetObjects' products, technical consultation and design tips. Non-profit organizations and community groups interested in joining WebReach can get details in a new community section of NetObjects' Web site at www.netobjects.com.

"The Internet is a popular movement, not just a technology advance, and NetObjects is committed to harnessing its power for the benefit of the community at large," said Samir Arora, CEO of NetObjects. "Through WebReach we want to offer non-profit organizations access to the same technology and resources that has helped 1000s of our commercial customers quickly build compelling Web sites."

Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES!) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and earth-friendly practices among the youth of America. YES! assists the formation of school clubs, regional coalitions and local action projects and provides young people with opportunities to take tangible action towards working for the environment. In the coming months, YES! will hold workshops to train non-profits, schools and students on how to use NetObjects Fusion to create a powerful voice on-line.

"It is gratifying to see a corporation help non-profit organizations take advantage of leading-edge technologies," said Adam Werbach, a YES! board member and the president of the Sierra Club. "NetObjects' support has been invaluable to us in our efforts to establish a presence on the World Wide Web."

Prior to the formal launch of WebReach today, NetObjects has already supported several community initiatives including:

  • The Bridge School: Founded by rock musician Neil Young and his wife Pegi, The Bridge School is dedicated to fostering the social and intellectual development of children with severe physical and speech impairments. NetObjects helped build the Bridge School's Web site (www.bridgeschool.org), and had a major presence at The Bridge Concert, an annual musical event sponsored by the school that featured prominent artists like Neil Young, Pearl Jam and David Bowie.
  • The Planet Youth Summit: NetObjects helped youth delegates attending the State of the World Forum, sponsored by the Gorbachev Foundation in San Francisco , create a 150 page Web site (www.planetyouth.com).
  • Feeling Minnesota Premiere Party: NetObjects sponsored the first-ever Webcast of a Hollywood premiere for Danny De-Vito's film, Feeling Minnesota (www.istv.com).
  • Phantasm: NetObjects sponsored the Webcast of Phantasm, an on-line event sponsored by a collaboration of companies and individuals interested in advancing the cause of on-line entertainment and community-building (www.phantasm.graham).

NetObjects has recruited a number of partners who share the company's beliefs on the social implications of the Internet. Called WebReach partners, these companies collaborate with NetObjects on a variety of projects, and currently include:

  • Impact Online, a non-profit Web publisher that helps individuals and community groups establish a presence on the World Wide Web (www.impactonline.org);
  • Percepticon (www.percepticon.com), an innovative Web design firm;
  • WebStock'96, (www.webstock96.com), a four-day on-line festival where young people from all over the world will gather to exchange ideas about how to make positive change in their communities.

Since its July 29 introduction, NetObjects Fusion has enjoyed an enthusiastic market reception. Thousands of users have praised its productivity benefits, nine major reviewers have commented on its revolutionary approach and a major industry award from Publish magazine has recognized its contribution to publishing.
