NetObjects Automates Web site Authoring, Publishing, and Management
New products will solve many problems faced by large and growing number of Web developers and designers.

Redwood City, CA, January 30, 1996 -- NetObjects(TM), Inc., a new software company, today announced that it has been formed to create Web site authoring, publishing, and management products for people and organizations who design and develop for the Web. The products solve key limitations of currently available tools.

Products currently used to create, publish, and manage Web sites and applications are in their infancy. These products do not adequately solve the problems of designing and authoring for an information browsing environment. Web publishing within corporations involves complexities of information access, security, control, and application development. Patching existing tools to output to the Web does not adequately address the needs of the new Web authors or users.

NetObjects is positioned to become a leading, independent provider of products and tools. Its first products are due in the second half of 1996. Target customers include internet and intranet Web site designers, developers, publishers, and webmasters.

"As was the case with other new mediums such as desktop publishing and multimedia, a new generation of products and tools is needed to develop and deploy information on the Web," said Samir Arora, CEO of NetObjects. "The object and page-navigation technology we've developed will let us quickly create products that solve a broad range of needs for web designers, authors and developers."

As a real-life demonstration of its technology, NetObjects has produced key enabling technology for 24 Hours in Cyberspace (www.cyber24.com), the largest milestone event in on-line publishing. The Cyberspace event on February 8, 1996 will showcase the future of real-time content publishing for media organizations and other businesses who publish information that changes rapidly. NetObjects has produced a prototype tool called NetObjects Site Publisher(TM), which will automatically build and update the entire site every 30 minutes. Thousands of images and hundreds of stories will be continuously collected, edited, and published in a single day.

"We could not have done the Cyberspace project without NetObjects' technology," said Tom Melcher, producer of Cyberspace. "None of the authoring tools we looked at let us retrieve data from the Illustra database, compose pages, and continuously publish the site with all navigational links automatically updated in the way NetObjects' technology does."

NetObjects was formed in November 1995, by Rae Technology Inc., a premier provider of applications recognized for their superior navigation, user interface and design; and Clement Mok designs Inc., an identity and information design firm specializing in design planning and design services.

The NetObjects management team includes Samir Arora, CEO, an industry veteran in information technology who spent several years in key management positions at Apple Computer, founded Rae Technology in 1992 and served as CEO; Dave Kleinberg, EVP, Marketing and Sales, formerly a marketing and sales executive of Macromedia before founding Rae Technology, where he also led marketing and sales; and Clement Mok, Chief Creative Officer, who is founder and Chairman of Clement Mok designs and founder and President of CMCD, a digital publishing company.
