NetObjects Fusion Supports First Visual Integration of Java Applets into Web Sites
New Web Site Building Software Makes it Easy for Non-Programmers to Harness the Power of Sun Microsystems Java

Redwood City, CA, July 29, 1996 -- NetObjects Fusion, a new Web site building software application introduced today by NetObjects, Inc., is the first product to provide visual support for integrating Java applets into Web sites. NetObjects Fusions' integration of applets written in Sun Microsystems Java development platform will enable Web designers, producers, and intranet webmasters to benefit from the power of Java without complex programming.

NetObjects plans to actively promote the use of Java in connection with NetObjects Fusion ,through co-marketing efforts, including a special section on the NetObjects Web site for users to post their Java applets and links to Java resources on the Web. JavaSoft will be providing its developers with information about NetObjects Fusion and trial software via links from the JavaSoft homepage.

"NetObjects visual support of Java and its active support for open standards will further Java's acceptance as a rich media component of innovative Web sites," said LewTucker, Director of Corporate and ISV Marketing of JavaSoft, an operating company of Sun Microsystems, Inc. "I believe that NetObjects will play a significant role in helping professionals build better Web sites and am, therefore, excited about our cooperation."

To integrate a Java applet into a Web site, users select the Java applet tool from the NetObjects Fusion tool bar and specify the location on a page where they want it placed. NetObjects Fusion's unique visual support of the Java platform allows the author to dynamically size the runtime dimensions and location of the applet. NetObjects Fusion then automatically queries the appropriate applet, retrieves and displays the applet parameters in a visual interface, and lets the author dynamically edit the parameters. In addition, NetObjects Fusion includes SiteMapperTM, a unique site navigation applet that embraces JavaSoft's programming guidelines.

We believe that applications vendors must embrace emerging open standards to help evolve the Internet industry, said Samir Arora, Chief Executive Officer of NetObjects. Java's inherent technical advantages and market acceptance, combined with the power of NetObjects Fusions' visual approach, will make it easier for more people to create rich and compelling Web sites. NetObjects Fusion is the first smart Web site building software application that integrates automated site building, professional-quality design and data publishing features. Early users believe that as compared to other tools, NetObjects Fusions' visual, site-oriented approach make building sophisticated Web sites much easier and faster.
