Forms Relationship With BBEdit Developer Bare Bones Software Inc., Offers $100 Customer Rebate

Redwood City, Calif., May 28, 1997 - NetObjects, Inc. today shipped NetObjects Fusion 2.0 for Macintosh, delivering its award-winning Web site building software application to Mac OS-based Web site-builders. NetObjects Fusion 2.0 brings over 100 customer-requested features and enhancements and remains the market’s only cross-platform (MacOS and Windows), site-oriented authoring application.

In addition, under the first stage of a new relationship with Bare Bones Software, Inc., NetObjects is including the Lite version of BBEdit, the leading Mac OS-based HTML editor, with NetObjects Fusion 2.0. NetObjects is also offering a sixty day $100 introductory rebate on NetObjects Fusion 2.0 to customers in the United States and Canada.

"NetObjects Fusion 2.0 draws upon almost a year of market presence and the feedback of hundreds of thousands of customers to deliver features that are relevant to the current stage of Web site building," said Dave Kleinberg, NetObjects' executive vice president of products. "With the release of the 2.0 version for Mac OS, we have further demonstrated our committment to the Mac platform by empowering Mac OS-based site-builders to create advanced sites, not just pages."

"NetObjects Fusion is a best-of-breed product that has succeeded in gaining impressive mindshare in the Web authoring space, one of Apple’s key areas of market strength," said David Krathwohl, Apple Computer's vice president of developer relations. "NetObjects’committment to deliver quality products for the Mac OS platform is shown by NetObjects Fusion's intuitive approach and ease-of-use. This product further strengthens the excellent hardware and software solutions open to Web authors on the Mac OS platform."

Key new features in the 2.0 Macintosh version include:

Increased HTML support:

  • Cross-browser HTML generation -- a unique NetObjects Fusion capability which generates HTML optimized for layout fidelity across different operating systems on different platforms and browsers;
  • Better performance -- generation of leaner code that can be downloaded faster;
  • Editing HTML -- Inclusion of BBEdit Lite to view and edit HTML in external pages that are managed and maintained by NetObjects Fusion.

Design Flexibility:

  • MasterBorders allow users to place elements on the borders of a page that are automatically repeated site-wide; users can then convert MasterBorders into frames site-wide with the single click of a button.

Macintosh-Specific Enhancements:

  • Macintosh-style drag and drop of text, images, and links from the desktop and browsers.
  • Advanced color management support uses Internet-safe color palettes and more sophisticated color pickers.
  • Enhanced QuickTime support from the tool palette.

NetObjects Fusion Components (NFX): Add sophisticated interactive content and functionality without custom programming through a host of Java-encapsulated components such as a Message Board, SiteMapper, or TickerTape.

NetObjects Ships NetObjects Fusion 2.0 for Macintosh Two of Two
"By using version 2.0 of a category-creating product, I enjoyed the benefits of innovation while minimizing the risk of untried software," said Bob Wardrop from Cambridge Holdings, a real estate and property management company. "NetObjects Fusion's dramatic productivity benefits allowed me to single-handedly build a 30-page site in only 3 days -- a project that would normally have taken several weeks. In addition, by shielding me from the complexities, NetObjects Fusion allowed me to focus on the creative rather than the tedious aspects of site building."

NetObjects Fusion 2.0 (available for Windows since February 1997) has received acclaim from reviewers and industry experts as being the one smart product for three tough jobs designing, building and updating Web sites. NetObjects Fusion has received over 15 industry awards including in the 1997 CNET Internet Excellence Award for Best Web Design tool.
