NetObjects and Netscape Join Forces to Offer all-in-one Solution for Easy and Powerful Web Site Creation and Publishing -- Netscape Publishing Suite Features Netscape Communicator and NetObjects Fusion Personal Edition

Mountain View and Redwood City, Calif., August 26, 1997 -- Netscape Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: NSCP) and NetObjects, Inc. today announced that they have joined together to offer an all-in-one solution for sophisticated home users and small office customers to easily create and publish Web sites. As an affordable and comprehensive collection of best-of-breed site creation and management tools, Netscape® Publishing Suite is designed expressly to support users through all stages of the site publishing process -- from designing, to quickly publishing to the Internet, to instantly updating of Web sites.

“Netscape Publishing Suite is designed to satisfy customer requirements for out-of-the-box solutions which easily and quickly let them build compelling Web sites,” said Mike Homer, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Netscape. “By combining NetObjects Fusion Personal Edition the premier product for small business Web site development - with Netscape® Communicator, the powerful Internet communications suite, we are providing home users and small office customers an affordable, intuitive and comprehensive solution.”

Through its relationship with NetObjects, Netscape is now offering Netscape Publishing Suite, a powerful, all-in-one solution for sophisticated home users and small office professionals to design, create and publish rich Web sites. Netscape Publishing Suite combines Netscape Communicator with NetObjects Fusion Personal Edition, an entry-level version of the award-winning NetObjects Fusion 2.0 publishing software for Windows.

“By bundling NetObjects Fusion PE with Netscape Publishing Suite, Netscape reinforces our position as the company that defined site building and raised the bar for intuitive Web authoring products,” said Dave Kleinberg, NetObjects founder and executive vice president, products. “By teaming up with Netscape and creating a product tailored to home and small office/home office users, we can quickly bring the power of NetObjects Fusion to a larger community in an affordable version which provides ease-of-use capabilities for site building without overwhelming users with features they don't need.”

Unlike page-oriented, word processing-based tools, NetObjects Fusion Personal Edition is the only visual, site-oriented Web authoring product. NetObjects Fusion PE includes all the site-oriented features of award-winning NetObjects Fusion 2.0, such as a visual site map, draw-based page building, site-wide control over a site's graphical look and professionally-designed site styles and templates. The NetObjects product family will also include a team authoring product expected by the end of 1997. All NetObjects products are forward-compatible and customers are assured of an affordable growth path within the product family.

Netscape Communicator client software suite includes Netscape Netcaster, Netscape Navigator 4.0 for Web browsing, Netscape Messenger for open email, Netscape Composer for HTML editing and publishing, Netscape Collabra for group collaboration, and Netscape Conference for real-time audio-conferencing.

Netscape Publishing Suite includes:

  • Netscape Communicator, including Netscape’s market-leading browser, email client and Internet account creation and connection software for modem users;
  • NetObjects Fusion Personal Edition (PE), an entry-level version of NetObjects Fusion 2.0 for Windows, the only site-oriented Web site authoring application;
  • Jasc Paint Shop Pro Image Editor to create custom Web graphics;
  • Many Internet utilities and plug-ins for powerful Internet communication.

The Netscape Publishing Suite is expected to be available in retail stores in early Fall and has an expected street price of $129 and comes with a $40 manufacturer’s rebate.

Teaming up on the Netscape Publishing Suite is the latest milestone in the Netscape-NetObjects relationship which was first established in July 1996. Another area of collaboration between the two companies include the inclusion of NetObjects Fusion 2.0 in Netscape® SuiteTools, a collection of tools for business Web site developers, that is distributed and supported by Netscape's sales force and offered through the Netscape® General Store. In addition, a trial version of NetObjects Fusion is bundled with Netscape Enterprise Server software.
