Redwood City, CA, Feb. 24, 1997 -- NetObjects, Inc. today announced the availability of its award-winning Web site building software NetObjects Fusion 2.0 for Windows and offered existing NetObjects customers a free upgrade.
As evidence of NetObjects Fusion's market acceptance, in separate press releases, NetObjects also announced that:
- Ingram Micro will distribute NetObjects Fusion through its national network of resellers;
- Peoplesoft has selected NetObjects Fusion for its company-wide intranet use;
- Eighteen leading Web designers have contributed styles and rich media content for NetObjects Fusion;
"NetObjects Fusion 1.0 leapfrogged the pack of page-oriented tools to create the new category of site building applications," said Dave Kleinberg, NetObjects' executive vice president of products. "By incorporating over 100 new customer-requested features into NetObjects Fusion 2.0, we intend to lead the new category as we evolve the page authors of yesterday into the site builders of tomorrow.”
NetObjects also announced that a Macintosh version of NetObjects 2.0 is under development and expected for delivery early in the quarter beginning April 1997.
Key new features of NetObjects Fusion 2.0 further raise the bar in site-oriented publishing in the following ways:
- Importing whole existing sites with pages and links, not just pages;
- Providing site-wide design flexibility through Master Borders and AutoFrames;
- Adding advanced functionality (without custom programming) for the serious site builder through NetObjects Fusion Components (NFx), a host of Java-encapsulated extensions to the core product. Sample NFx that ship with NOF 2.0 include a ticker tape, a site mapper and a bulletin board system;
- Extending the core product with best-of-breed applications such as the Acadia Infuse JavaScript editor and Inso spellchecker;
- Enhancing the overall content of sites with 51 SiteStyles, 39 page templates, 7 AutoSites and over 20 MB of rich media.
Since the introduction of NetObjects Fusion 1.0 in September 1996, over 100,000 site builders have downloaded it to build thousands of media-rich Web sites. NetObjects 2.0 is available today for an expected street price of under $500 in North America via Ingram Micro, a network of resellers and VARs and directly from NetObjects. Available for the Windows and Macintosh operating systems, NetObjects Fusion has received wide acclaim including being named one of C/NET's Top Five Internet Products of 1996, Morph's Outpost Daily Spectrum's Best Web Authoring Tool, and has won several awards including New Media Magazine's HyperMedia, PC Magazine's Editors Choice and Publish Magazine's Impact awards.
