NetObjects Appoints High Tech Industry and Investment Banking Veteran as CFO and VP of Operations

Redwood City, CA, August 13, 1996-- Building on the momentum from the introduction of its first product and partnership agreements with Internet industry leaders IBM, UUNET, Netscape and Sun, NetObjects, Inc. today announced the appointment of Susan Kelly Barnes as chief financial officer and vice president of operations.

Barnes is a fifteen-year veteran of operational and financial management and a former founder of NeXT Computer Inc. Reporting directly to Samir Arora, NetObjects' CEO, Barnes will be responsible for managing the operational and financial aspects of the company as it establishes itself as a leading provider of site authoring software for the Internet's World Wide Web.

"A strong management team is critical to evolve innovative companies with hit products into dominant, mainstream software providers," said Arora. "Susan has played a key role in guiding companies from a start-up phase to billion-dollar corporations. Her experience in building company value as an internal executive as well as an investor will ensure that NetObjects has a smooth and responsible course to success."

Barnes brings over 15 years of buy side investment banking, portfolio management and high technology industry experience to NetObjects. Over the last six years, Barnes was a principal of the merchant banking group of Jeffries & Company, Inc. and the investment firms of WestWind Capital Partners and Richard C. Blum & Associates. As part of the management team at Blum, Barnes participated at the investor and board level in several leading companies, including Northwest Airlines, Triad Systems and National Education Corporation. Prior to that, Barnes was one of the six founders of NeXT Computer Inc., along with Steven P. Jobs, and served as CFO for six years. During that time, NeXT raised over $127 million in equity capital and grew from a six-person start-up to a multimillion dollar company. Prior to NeXT, as Macintosh division controller for Apple Computer, Barnes oversaw its growth from a research and development project to a $1 billion profit center. Barnes is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and holds a masters in business administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

"I am a great believer in the potential of the Internet to change the way individuals and corporations work," said Barnes. "In NetObjects, I've found a company with a strong management team, winning strategy and powerful products for a vast and untapped market opportunity-all factors critical to building a successful company that lasts. "
