Internet World, New York, NY, Dec. 10, 1997 -NetObjects, Inc., the Web site building company, and Live Picture Corp., the Internet imaging company, today entered into a strategic partnership aimed at enabling Web site builders to easily create media-rich content for dynamic, immersive Web sites.
Under terms of a new technology licensing and distribution agreement, NetObjects Fusion will support Live Picture's client/server imaging solutions, based on the FlashPix multiple-resolution imaging standard and the Internet Imaging Protocol (IIP).
As the initial milestone of the collaboration, NetObjects will provide direct support for the FlashPix image format and IIP in its next version of NetObjects Fusion. FlashPix support within NetObjects Fusion will let Web site builders easily incorporate multiple-resolution FlashPix images on their sites. With FlashPix and IIP, Internet users can click on pictures to view progressively detailed images of products - such as apparel, furniture or other manufactured goods - quickly and easily via the Web. The FlashPix format and IIP were pioneered by Live Picture and represent a dramatic improvement over the low-resolution pictures that populate the Web today.
"As Web sites evolve from simple billboards to dynamic business entities, site builders need access to rich media such as high-resolution FlashPix images to enhance the user experience," said David Kleinberg, NetObjects co-founder and executive vice president of products. "FlashPix and IIP have clearly emerged as the best formats for displaying and examining images quickly and easily. We see real synergy between Live Picture's vision of Internet imaging and our focus on site builders' needs and look forward to a fruitful collaboration between our two companies."
"Nothing is more important to Web site builders than delivering unique visual content that excites users and keeps them coming back for more," said John Ison, vice president of marketing at Live Picture. "We are thrilled that NetObjects is including support for FlashPix in NetObjects Fusion, making it as easy to use high-resolution zoomable images as today's common, single-resolution JPEGs."
