Lotus and NetObjects Inc. Advance Powerful Web Site Building
Capabilities
Notes Designer for Domino and NetObjects Fusion Bundle Offers Designers Complete Content, Design and Management Solutions.

Cambridge, Mass., & Redwood City, Calif., Dec. 9, 1997 - Lotus Development Corp. and NetObjects, Inc. today announced two initiatives that will advance designers' Web site creation capabilities. The first is the test build release of Lotus Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector. The Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector integrates the market-leading Lotus Domino Web application server with NetObjects Fusion, the award-winning site building software. The first test build of the Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector, available today, can be downloaded from the Lotus Web site at http://www.lotus.com/dfc. Second, Lotus will be bundling for a limited time at no additional charge NetObjects Fusion, the Lotus Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector, and Lotus Notes Designer for Domino, the premier Web application development tool.

"Lotus is offering content creators the powerful graphic page creation capabilities of NetObjects Fusion, coupled with the collaborative power of the Domino Web application server," said Eileen Rudden, senior vice president of Communication Product Development for Lotus. "Together we are providing them with an unparalleled development environment by combining the intuitive, visual content and site creation environment of Fusion with the industrial strength development capability of Designer. As a result of these initiatives, developers will be able to more rapidly and effectively develop advanced intranet and Web site applications."

"As Web sites evolve from simple billboards into dynamic business systems, site builders need solutions that combine the ease of use of visual Web site building with the sophistication of dynamic content management," said Samir Arora, chairman and CEO of NetObjects. "By integrating NetObjects Fusion and Domino, we are enabling customers to create compelling sites and extend them into business applications."

Lotus Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector Provides Synergy for Dynamic Web Site Creation
Lotus and NetObjects jointly developed the Lotus Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector in response to demand for a complete solution for building and managing interactive Web sites and applications with dynamic content. Domino developers can now take advantage of Fusion's drag-and-drop content authoring and site creation tools. Fusion users now have a more powerful server for storing and managing content through the underlying Domino object management system.

The Lotus Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector is a set of Java-based Domino components and a site import tool that provide NetObjects Fusion designers access to the dynamic content management and display capabilities of Domino. The components give NetObjects Fusion users the ability to design Domino forms and views and to manipulate select Domino constructs from within the Fusion environment. The site import tool is a Domino server add-in task that transfers Fusion-generated sites to Domino. Domino's database-driven approach provides programmability, directory, security, workflow, and replication capabilities. With the Lotus Domino and NetObjects Fusion Connector, Web designers can now:

  • Publish Fusion-created sites directly to Domino servers with the click of a button
  • Use a powerful, visually oriented, drag-and-drop design tool to produce pages and sites for Domino
  • Access Domino components such as forms, views and navigators from Fusion
  • Add advanced functionality to their suites such as user profiling/personalization, advanced searches and dynamic database access
  • Generate multimedia interactive Web pages for Domino using graphical site and layout tools, sites styles and an asset manager.

Notes Designer for Domino/Fusion Bundle Offers Premier Web Site Development Solution Lotus will bundle NetObjects Fusion in the Notes Designer for Domino package on a promotional basis beginning in the first quarter of 1998 for $495, the current cost of Notes Designer for Domino.
