NetObjects Inc. and Allaire Corporation Fuse Their Fusion Products. Companies sign joint technology/marketing agreement.

Cambridge, Mass./Redwood City, Calif., Nov. 3, 1997 - Allaire Corporation and NetObjects Inc. today announced they will work together to help Web designers and developers to rapidly create data-driven, visually appealing Web sites. As part of a broad technology and marketing partnership agreement, the companies said they are providing a set of Java-based NetObjects Fusion components that make it easy to combine the visual sophistication of NetObjects Fusion, the premiere Web site design and management tool, with Allaire's Cold Fusion, the leading rapid application development system for the Web. The components were created using NetObjects' Component Development Kit (CDK), which enables developers to create components or plug-in modules that integrate seamlessly with NetObjects Fusion. The Fusion2Fusion connectivity kit will be available for electronic download from Allaire's Web site www.allaire.com later this month.

"This partnership with Allaire underscores our commitment to meet the evolving needs of Web site builders,"said David Kleinberg, NetObjects' executive vice president of products. "Our customers are seeking to build and maintain more dynamic Web sites that provide increasingly sophisticated levels of interaction with employees, customers and business partners. This partnership with Allaire gives our customers the capability to create dynamic Web applications with the simple click of a button. "

"Our partnership with NetObjects is another important step in our mission to provide Web designers and developers powerful and flexible products that help establish the Web as the next major platform for computing," said David Orfao, president and CEO of Allaire. "NetObjects has established itself as the leading provider of Web site building software by reducing the cost, time and tedium of building high-quality Web sites. With the Fusion2Fusion connectivity kit, it will now be far easier for Web designers and developers to create data-driven sites."

Technology/Marketing Partnership
Initial implementation of the Fusion2Fusion connectivity kit provided by Allaire Corp. supports individual users. As part of the partnership, the companies said they will extend the connectivity kit's capabilities to support NetObjects' forthcoming product offerings. Additionally, the companies said they will work together on a number of joint promotions and marketing activities.

Fusion2Fusion
The Fusion2Fusion connectivity kit provides Web developers a complete visual project environment for creating data-driven sites. . For current NetObjects designers, the kit allows the inclusion of dynamically generated elements using the product's familiar properties palette interface. Dynamic objects, such as an employee list generated from an Oracle database, can be incorporated into existing sites. The objects created with Cold Fusion can be drag-and-dropped, resized or copied using the same methods NetObjects users currently follow to create and modify objects. For current Cold Fusion application developers, the connectivity kit allows the rapid creation of sites within the top-of-the-line site development tool. Cold Fusion Markup Language (CFML) pages can be prototyped and modified rapidly by providing variables for most common Cold Fusion tags. Utilizing NetObjects' drag-and-drop interface, dynamic elements can be placed precisely on the page. The Fusion2Fusion connectivity kit was developed by Fundere Inc. and will be marketed and distributed by Allaire under license from Fundere. Allaire will provide support for the connectivity kit.

"This connectivity kit gives us the capability to place database fields in Web sites without resorting to a text editor," said Bill Freeland, director of the integrated media lab for R.R. Donnelley Financial. "By taking advantage of this tighter integration between the Fusion products, we are reducing our coding time by greater than 50 percent."Freeland added that he first used NetObjects Fusion and Allaire's Cold Fusion together in developing IPO Prospectus, the first searchable database of current and historical initial public offering (IPO) documents for the United States. The site co-developers were R.R. Donnelley Financial, a leader in technology-enabled financial services communications, and IPO Crossroads, a portfolio modeling and analysis company. IPO Prospectus provides easy access to a comprehensive, three-year database of IPO company information and prospectuses.

Requirements, Pricing and Availability
The Fusion2Fusion connectivity kit, which supports Windows NT and Windows 95, will be available later this month from Allaire's online store at
www.allaire.com. The kit, which will be priced at $99, will be available by electronic download. It also will be provided for free with new licenses of Cold Fusion Application Server and Cold Fusion Studio, the recently announced integrated development environment for Cold Fusion developers.
