NetObjects Authoring Server Brings Rapid Java Server Page™ Development to Enterprise Web Applications
Powerful Team Collaboration and Content Contribution Features Dramatically Streamline Web Application Development & Management

Redwood City, Calif., December 14, 1999 – NetObjects, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETO) today announced NetObjects Authoring Server for Java Server Pages™ (NAS for JSP).  NetObjects Authoring Server, the most powerful collaborative Web development and content management solution in the industry, combined with JSP and Java server technology from Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: SUNW), provides an integrated platform for the rapid development of enterprise Web applications, a key competitive factor in today’s quickly changing Web environments.

Developing complex Java-based Web applications often requires substantial technical expertise.   Using NAS for JSP, customers will be able to integrate teams of Web designers with Web developers to rapidly produce Java-based Web applications more efficiently and at a reduced cost.   It brings together the most important aspects of enterprise Web production, - collaboration, control, rapid design and development, easy administration, openness and connectivity into one powerful platform – truly raising the industry standard for the development, deployment and maintenance of enterprise-wide Web applications. Applications developed with NAS for JSP can be deployed to popular Java Application Servers such as IBM Websphere, BEA WebLogic, iPlanet Application Server from the Sun/Netscape Alliance, and others.

“Now Web developers, designers, content creators and content managers will be able to collaboratively develop Java-based applications in less time and with less effort,” said Morris Taradalsky, executive vice president of the enterprise division at NetObjects.  “NAS for Java eliminates the need for high-level technical expertise, traditionally required of Java applications.”

“NAS for JSP is an ideal Web application platform, combining rapid Web design with Java application development,” says Gina Centoni, director of platform product marketing, Sun Microsystems. “With NAS for JSP, what used to require highly-skilled Java programmers can be accomplished by Web designers.  The NAS platform is a practical approach to Web application development that significantly contributes to Java 2, Enterprise Edition adoption as a standard for corporate Web environments.”

NAS for JSP provides customers with a rapid solution for developing and deploying Java applications in corporate environments that could include multiple platforms such as Windows, Solaris and Linux.  An easy-to-use visual environment facilitates collaboration among members with different roles and skill sets to speed site deployment.  In addition, NAS provides central control over workflow and Web production, provides ease of administration, and leverages investments in existing tools, as well as other front- and back-office applications and systems.
